Bodies by Baby
So, your standing in line at the supermarket and can’t help but to notice the title of one of those outrageous tabloids; “My Body After Baby, How I did it!” As your standing there in your sweats, admiring her physique, you can’t help but assume she lost the weight in an unhealthy way. I mean, the pace at which these celebrities are losing their baby weight is unbelievable. Or isn’t it? Of course there are those who don’t go about it in the way that they should BUT there is hope for the rest of us who want their body back through healthy methods. It’s hard to know where to start, with a myriad of options being presented to you in the forms of gym memberships and exercise classes, but which one is most effective? In order to thread through our assortment of options, I decided to ask some mothers I know. After all, I may be athletic but I am no mommy yet.
Here is what I found:
Pure Barre is a 55 minute, full-body workout class using a ballet bar, ball, strap and mat. Here comes the genius; this workout concentrates specifically on the areas that women struggle with the most. These include the hips, thighs, seat, abdominals and arms. Not only this, but it is a low-impact workout, thus, protecting your joints. I myself have done this workout in the past and I could not help but be blown away by my body’s transformation after just a month.
Hilliard Studio Method
This method is also very unique, for it too is a full body workout that uses the latest most evolutionary movements but is higher energy. This workout focuses more on promoting the strength of the spine as well as the power of the core. As I side note, I was also pleased to find out the studio donates over $30,000 worth of services to the Charlotte community annually. I recently spoke to a mom-friend of mine who claimed that this method was the only one she could find that actually helped her bounce back from baby.
Hot yoga (Bikram or Other)
As long as your delivery was healthy and normal, it is safe to start hot yoga right away, as advised by Bikram Choundhury himself. However, consult with your doctor just to be on the safe side, and use modifications liberally. Hot yoga works in a slightly different way by eliminating all of your built up water weight through detoxification of the body. It too is a low impact workout that helps promote total mind-body awareness and relaxation. It is great to do on its own, or in addition to other workouts. I am a huge advocate of this practice, for I lose an average of five pounds of water every class I take!
Each studio mentioned above have introductory specials, so find out what works best for you. Also, remember that 80% of weight loss starts in the kitchen! The best of luck to all those new (and not so new) mommies out there, I’d love to hear about your experiences!
