Does anyone know what this Thursday is? It is a day dedicated to celebrating something that I am quite passionate about and it is something that I require it on a daily basis. In fact, sometimes I can't get out of bed without it! Guys, National Coffee Day is coming up and I am planning on observing this day whole-heartedly.
This is for all you coffee drinkers out there. Let's celebrate! I personally love celebrating these little fun holidays because I think it reminds us to appreciate the small things in life. Then I thought, why not enlighten our readers on the different options they have in the Charlotte area for their daily cup(s) of joe?
For the coffee drinkers that are not originally from the Queen City-which seems to be the majority now a days- you have options! When I first moved here I frequented the two big guys, Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts. These places were the most convenient and though they may be great go-to options, I was missing out on all of the local gems! Now whenever I plan my coffee dates, meetings or just need a pick me up, I think outside the box. The coffee is great quality, it gives me that boost I need, and I'm supporting local business. What more could I ask for?
One of my favorites is Not Just Coffee. They have three locations; South End, Elizabeth and Uptown. I myself prefer their iced coffee or caramel macchiato. Plus, if you go to the South End Location, you can visit the Atherton Mill Market while you are waiting for your order! Check out their offering of all different types of local vendors.
Another option that I absolutely love is Smelly Cat Cafe in NoDa. They opened back in 2000 in a great location, right in the heart of NoDa. I personally enjoy everything they have to offer but my go-to is their New Orleans iced coffee. This is a great place to bring over a book or even get some work done.
Central Coffee Company in Plaza Midwood is another wonderful option. I have set up camp there plenty of times to catch up on some writing. It doesn't get as loud as Starbucks and they even have patio seating for when it cools down outside. I'll never forget the first time I went there. My car had died on the side of Central Avenue in 90-degree weather and I desperately needed to get some work done. There it was, a caffeine filled oasis, and I've been coming back ever since.
In honor of those of you who can appreciate some good Java, switch up your morning pick me up on National Coffee Day this year. Use the holiday as an excuse to break from the norm and try something new! I promise you won't be disappointed.
