Nanny Q & A: Your Most Pressing Childcare Questions Answered!?

July 25, 2016

Has the time finally come and you need to consider hiring a nanny? Whether you just got a new job, had a baby, or are simply in need of an extra pair of hands, the time has come for you to start looking for childcare. There is a lot more that goes into finding childcare than one may think, so being thorough with your search is crucial. One of the most valuable things you can do to prepare for your search is to establish certain standards of expectations as well as come prepared with any questions or concerns that address the needs of your family.

Whether you are interviewing a nanny or having a meet and greet with a daycare service, make sure you look into the reputation of the nanny agency or daycare that you are going through. There is a lot you can learn from simply asking other people about their personal experience with that particular service. In the field of childcare, word of mouth is key because it is really the best way to get a feel for the quality of service you are going to be getting.

When it comes to hiring a nanny, one of the most important things to consider is their past experience with caring for children. Make sure you ask any candidate you meet with to provide at least three childcare references. This is so that you can personally speak to people who have used their services. Your going to want to ask these references about the specific duties of the nanny, the ages of the children they cared for and the different activities that they engaged the children in. Make sure the references story matches up with what your prospective nanny told you.

Definitely don’t forget to consider the different credentials that any professional nanny will be expected to have. This definitely includes a clean background and driving check as well as their ability to legally work in the United States. Are they CPR and First Aid certified? What is their educational background and do they have experience working in your child/ren’s age group? It also helps to arrange a trial day in order to help you get a feel for their professionalism and how they interact with children.

After all is said and done, never underestimate the power of your own instincts and the gut feelings you get when weighing your options. At the end of the day, you want to feel at ease when leaving someone with your children. Remember, there is no such thing as being too thorough when finding childcare for your little ones and everyone deserves to leave their babies with somebody they can trust. That is why those of us at Perfect Fit Placement are striving to be a go-to resource for anyone who is starting their search for a caregiver.
