An Ode to Dads Everywhere

June 20, 2016

There are so many things I feel thankful for every day. At the top of the list, sitting high like the king he is, my dad. Where in the world would I be without this man? He jumps to my side during my times of need, he is the one who gave me my drive and ambition (both genetically and by how I was raised) and he never fails to inspire and empower me each and every day. To all of the wonderful fathers, father figures and mentors out there, this is for you.

Everyone has different relationships with their Fathers and has been influenced by them in varying ways. This is a time to commemorate and applaud each and every thing they do for us. Whether your dad expresses his love by always showing up to your big days, sending an “I love you” text every now and then or simply supporting you in all that you do, know that you are very lucky.

As you read these touching tributes to fathers near and far, just know that you have the power to influence the younger generation in a similar way. Whether you are a father yourself or a father figure, you make a difference.

Introducing, “An Ode to Dads Everywhere.”

Jordan: Charlotte, North Carolina

My dad is Dr. Phil mixed with Jerry Seinfeld and Mary Poppins. The most emotionally connected, humorous, nurturing father a girl could ask for. A stay at home dad of 4 daughters who he taught how to play sports and keep up with the boys, wash dishes and how to help him with his projects around the house, how to work hard at whatever we do and never give up, and how to talk about our emotions as well as how to try and understand them. He taught me to never follow the crowd and that I can do absolutely whatever I set my mind to as long as I stick with it. He taught me to always be caring and that integrity and honesty is the most important virtues to hold. He made it clear that our actions are always going to follow us. My dad is intelligent, talented, caring, and the best role model I could ever ask for. I am 100% my daddy’s daughter and couldn’t be more proud to say so.

Madison: Baltimore, Maryland

My dad has been such an inspiration to me. He has faced so much adversity throughout his lifetime but has persevered to become one of the most successful and hardworking people I know. He has always been there for me and is my best friend . I am so thankful to have someone that unconditionally loves me and supports me through everything.

Justin: Arlington, Virginia

Where do I start with my dad? I wouldn’t be the man I am today without him. He taught me everything I know! Without him, I would’ve given up on one of my most sought after dreams; baseball. He has pushed me to be the best I can be at all that I do and I will never be so grateful for anything else.

Ashley: Miami, Florida

When I think of my dad I think of my biggest supporter in the world. When I feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders, he’s the only person I know that knows how to keep me calm. I know I can always count on him.

Sam: Brentwood, New Hampshire

The fondest memory I have with my father is the time that I ran my first track meet in high school and ended up coming in dead last. The first person I saw coming to meet me right after was my dad. He wrapped me in a huge hug and said he was proud of me. I’ll never forget that day and it is a memory I hold so very close to my heart.

Greg: Charlotte, North Carolina

Whenever I think of my father, I think of the most unwavering and persistent love that one could ever imagine. He constantly reminds me, “The day I held you in my arms for the first time was the day my life began.” I feel like the luckiest person in the world to have someone feel that way about me and thank God every day that I was brought into this world by such a wonderful human being.

Please take a moment, big or small, to thank your father or father figure for all that he does. Let him know that he is appreciated and loved. Know that just a small thank you can be the biggest thing in the world when you’re a dedicated parent trying to make a difference in somebody’s life. Happy Fathers Day.
